Mindfulness Based Compassionate Living
A deeper exploration of the inner and outer science of Mindfulness & Compassion.
Who’s it for?
This course is suitable for those who have completed a foundational mindfulness course (such as MBSR/MBCT). For those wishing to continue with learning and deepen practice, the 9-week secular Mindfulness Based Compassionate Living (MBCL) course explores mindfulness, compassion and dealing with pain and stress from a framework of Modern psychology and Buddhist philosophy.
Mindfulness is a path that can ignite our curiosity and motivation for
further exploration and insight.
Background
Drawing on their extensive clinical mental health and Buddhist experience, Dr Erik Van Den Brink (psychiatrist, psychotherapist) and Frits Koster (meditation teacher, psychiatric nurse specialist) developed the MBCL programme in 2010 (initially for mental health clients who benefitted so much from foundational MBSR/MBCT mindfulness courses). Thereafter, MBCL - a compassion skills training- extended first to healthcare staff, and then to the general public worldwide. Trained and supervised by Erik, Hilary shares the passion for deepening insight and practice and is delighted to offer the MBCL course, online since 2019 and in person in 2022.
Format - What’s the course like?
9 weekly (2.5 hour) classes and a half day of practice. This experiential course is built around weekly themes; exploring from theory, reflective exercises and meditation practice how evolution and our life experiences have shaped the way we relate to threats and suffering, and how we relate to ourselves and others.
Building upon personal mindfulness practice, MBCL invites self-exploration and enhances self-capacity to deal in a compassionate way with the pain and stress we meet as part of being human. An important difference between this course and MBSR/MBCT is that a range of practices and suggestions for home practice are given following each session, rather than specific. This supports participants to tune into their deeper needs and choose the exercises that connect best to their learning process.
